Travelling to East Coast in July

sounds like plan. Have a wonderful trip..

Travelling to East Coast in July

Thanks alot for all your replies. Were defo flying up to Cairns now and working our way down. The Oz Experience bus from Cairns to Sydney is 251. I dont know if that is good or not compared to Greyhound or other services but we will have a look at other options once we are in Cairns. We need to do Sydney first because the people we would be staying with wont be there 2 months down the line..

Planning to visit Sydney..need advice!

Oxford St. is a great place to go party, if that's what you seek. Blue Mountains is absolutely beautiful, and can be as relaxing or action-packed as you want it to be. Pittwater is a great place to do nothing and chill out, and there is not a lot of people (read: backpackers) around there. I know the last to places are not in Sydney, but they're close enough, and really worth a visit..

Travelling to East Coast in July

I would plan to spend a larger amount of time in tropics at that time of year, simply because of the climate. You being from the UK, I suppose you miss warmer weather as much as I do in Denmark. So why not take advantage of it? Sydney is an amazing city all year round, and I would always be happy to spend several weeks there. Good luck with your travels..

Travelling to East Coast in July

Cairn would be my pick in August. warm with good swimming weather.. Not too much rain. Is it possible to fly direct to cairns or Brisbane with the flight you have booked can you change . This way you will not have to get a another ticket once in Australia. Is it also possible to meet you friends at the end of trip. Just a little food for thought. Here is a link to the Bureau of Meteorlogy Austalia have also given table to compair Sydney and Cairns http://www.bom.gov.au http://www.bom.gov.au/climate/averages/tables/cw_031010.shtml http://www.bom.gov.au/climate/averages/tables/cw_066062.shtml.

Travelling to East Coast in July

Thanks! :) You mean Cairns is at its best in August?.

Travelling to East Coast in July

It's so easy to get a really cheap flight from Sydney to Cairns - lots of people do it. Even though it's the middle of 'winter' at that time of year, compared to UK winters it's like a mild spring!! Cairns is definitely at its best then too. Have a great time!.

Travelling to East Coast in July

Thanks alot for your replies. Alot of the places you have suggested we will be going :-) According to this book ive got it says with the Oz Experience you can get on and off where you want? We are actually meeting friends who live in Sydney as soon as we land (Just found out) and we will stray with them for at least a week and then decide if were flying to Cairns and working our way down (which if your suggesting is better we will prob do that) or work our way up..

Travelling to East Coast in July

As Im sure you have figured out Sydney will be in the middle of winter so on breach time available. I always head out of town at this time of year and head somewhere warm If I were you I would do your trip in reverse. But In regards to your time frame it is a 9 hour drive from Sydney to Bryon Bay including lunch stop .Plenty to see and do along the way if you drive yourself. I have just reviewed the time table for the Oz Experience and looks to me that it only stops at Coffs Harbour and a surf camp this will not take two weeks at most a few days. But you could spend up to a week in Sydney seeing the sights and a little longer if you want to go to the Blue mountains for a few days. Byron Will be very busy the first week of August there will be a huge festive called SPLENDOUR IN THE GRASS that week I would book if I were you.

Travelling to East Coast in July

Oz Experience Bus sounds good from what people have been telling me. We will probably do that. I have no idea how long we will spend in each place. Basically just decide once we get to each place. But for example if were landing in Sydney July 30th and say we have 2 weeks max there, by the time we get to Byron Bay it will prob be around end of August Is that a fair estimate time frame? Will it be busy in Byron Bay end of August?.

Travelling to East Coast in July

How will you be travelling? Yeah some people would opt for that, how many days will you spend per city?.

Travelling to East Coast in July

Hi everyone. Basically just looking for advice. I am flying out to Sydney with a friend on July 28th. We have got 3 months in Australia. The plan was to work our way up the East Coast (Maybe via the Oz Experience bus) to Cairns. Basically some peolpe have been saying that because of the time of year we are going it will not be very busy in places and some are suggesting that as soon as we land, we should get a flight straight to Cairns and work our way down back to Sydney? Would this be better or is it going to be busy all year round along the East Coast? Thanks..

Planning to visit Sydney..need advice!

Maritime Museum is good - and most of it's free..

Need Advice for Favourite Australian City???.

Brisbane is also great for easy access to the beautiful Sunshine Coast (an hour away) and Byron Bay (2 hrs)..

A place to live in Australia

Brisbane's not as glamorous as Sydney but very liveable. It's easy to get around and has good nightlife and cafe culture. Is also really easy to get to the Sunshine Coast or Byron Bay from there at weekends. You can also try realestate.com.au for house shares and there are plenty of temp agencies in the city if you're looking for work..

Need Advice for Favourite Australian City???.

Hard to say all cities have their own unique charm. Depends on the sort of things you enjoy. If its a capital city you are after with good shopping and nightlife great restaurant, you cant go past Sydney or Melbourne. But all of Australia is great come and have a look around with a little research I m sure you will find an area that suit what youre interested in ..

Planning to visit Sydney..need advice!

When are you planning on holidaying in Sydney and how old are the kids? With the Zoo and the Aquarium dont think age really matters a good day out regardless. I dont have Kids and still like visiting these places . If you want to get away from the city for a few days why not head to the North Beaches of Sydney for a few days or head to Bondi or Manly for some fun in the Sun . Or you could head to the blue mountain for a few days in the bush setting or go to the hunter valley for winery tours ..

Australia Tour on the way.looking for suggestions!

You could do the road most travelled by your type by this I mean youthful Back backers. Which is the coastal stretch between Sydney and Brisbane. Which most do. I have just travelled this road and seen why great beaches . But you could also take the path in land and see a great Diversity of NSW and QLD including country NSW and coastal NSW ,Rainforest to gum forests. Country towns and coastal towns all very different and special in their unique ways. All depend on what you like doing. But be adventurous you may manage to see something very special.

Planning road trip

Have just returned from road trip. We headed off from Sydney, over the blue mountains to the Coonabarabran for a few days in the Warren bungles National Park. The park was amazing with all number of native Animals and fantastic scenery . Did a walk to the Grand high tops which overlooks a spectacular rock formation called the bread knife. At night gazed at the sky and sore the most amazing star shining in the sky dont think I have ever seen so many. could make out heaps of constellation I had never seen before. Then headed to Dubbo and the zoo for the day. After this wanted more nature so head to the Coolah tops which should have been amazing if the park had not been closed. after the disappointment of a long drive to only find out as we got to the front gate that we need to turn around we headed to Armidale to find fantastic food and coffee.

Need Advice for Favourite Australian City???.

Contrary to popular belief, the country is not all steamy hot and unfriendly. There are extremes here, just as in other countries, but for the most part the climate ranges from arid to temperate. I think you might consider Sydney and Brisbane and Melbourne!.

Need Advice for Favourite Australian City???.

For me it's all about...Brisbane!! It's the country's fastest growing city and there's so much to do both in the city itself and in the surrounding areas. It has the Museum of Brisbane for the more culturally minded, and plenty of shopping centres (or malls, if you want to call them that...) if that's your thing too. It's just generally a fun place to be! Trips outside the city could include Dreamworld and/or Movieworld, two fantastic theme parks. Dreamworld also has a zoo so you can meet some Australian wildlife up close! You could even visit the Moreton Bay Islands or of course Surfer's Paradise on the Gold Coast which is about an hour from Brisbane; the beaches are amazing. Hope that helped!!.

Traveling To Hobart

Hey Wolfette, how was the trip? Any hints or tips for other travellers ? Cheers CJ.

Traveling To Hobart

Hobart to be a delightful place, with friendly people, excellent restaurants and bars, and decent hotels at a fair tariff. As is our practice we got out of the City quickly, but were struck that we didn't feel like we were escaping. Tasmania truly should be seen before any more "civilization" gets there. Whether we goes to the shoreside south of Hobart and Bruny Island, up the east coast to Freycinet N.P., or west to the wilds in the vicinity of Strahan, it is strikingly beautiful. The only downside is in the mining sector between Hobart and Strahan, but even that is good to see if only to appreciate how easy it is to screw up our environment if we aren't careful. :).

Wildlife in Western Australia?

Western Australia is vast and untouched outback is teeming with fascinating native fauna. In the sun-kissed Kimberley, crocodiles inhabit the rivers and inlets. Freshwater crocodiles are common in the Kimberley, where they bask in and around rivers, lakes and pools in gorges. While they may look ferocious, they are relatively harmless. Spot them in Lake Argyle, along the Ord River, in Geikie Gorge and Tunnel Creek. Nearer to the coast, and sometimes inland too, are saltwater crocodiles. These big guys with their gaping jaws should be treated with great respect - but it's a spine-tingling experience to see them in their natural environment. Freshwater CrocodilesThe best - and safest - way to spot a croc is by exploring waterways and national parks with local guides. And make sure you follow their advice! A tamer way to experience these majestic creatures is at Broome's crocodile farm. Here, you can get up close with several thousand crocodiles, while protected by a fence.

Sydney - Perth...where to start!!??!?!

Sydney enjoys a temperate climate with a mild winter, and has more than 340 sunny days a year. The summer season is from December through to February. The average daily high temperatures in March are 24 and #730; C (76 and #730; F), and the average daily low temperatures are 17 and #730; (63 and #730;). :).

Great Barrier Reef day trips from Cairns - which is best?

With loads of sunshine, warm seas, refreshing sea breezes and a warm climate all year round, Tropical North Queensland weather is hard to beat. The region has two distinct seasons; a winter period of warm temperatures and low rainfall, and a summer period of balmy temperatures and higher rainfall. Winter, or the 'Dry' season, begins in May and ends in October offering sunshine, fresh breezes and low humidity. Summer, or the 'Wet' season, extends from November to April and refreshes the region with tropical downpours of an afternoon and occasional dramatic electrical storms. By Air - The main gateway to Cairns is its airport, which has international, domestic and general aviation terminals, and is serviced by major international, national and state carriers. International visitors can fly direct to Australia with Cairns as their point of entry. Within Australia, Qantas, Qantas Link, Virgin Blue and local charter companies provide regular flights from major southern cities and regional Queensland towns.
